July 2 Council Preview

Stay connected to Town Council

Your Town Council meets Tuesday, July 2. View the full agenda online.

Town Council is scheduled to discuss several items, including an ordinance allowing ducks, miniature goats and miniature pot-belled pigs in Town. If approved, the ordinance would allow these animals in residential areas with some restrictions. Homeowners associations within Town may have restrictions regarding these animals that could still apply, even if the ordinance is approved.

Here is a preview of a couple other items on Tuesday’s agenda:

  • Direction regarding School Resource Officer – Town Council will discuss and provide direction regarding staff’s recommendation to add another middle school School Resource Officer for CRPD. Currently, one SRO covers both middle schools in Town. Adding an SRO would increase security, creating a safer environment for local students.

Douglas County School District would reimburse the Town half of the annual operating expenses for the new SRO. If approved, CRPD would get the officer in place in time for the 2019/2020 school year. A budget amendment would be necessary.

  • Initial discussion about potential changes to the Town’s Zoning Code – Council will begin discussing potential changes to the Town’s Zoning Code. Some changes aim to improve the code’s readability and provide needed clarifications. Another change updates the neighborhood meeting section to require more neighborhood outreach.

Additionally, Council will receive a staff briefing regarding any additions to the code to provide interface regulations between dissimilar residential developments. Requirements might include buffering and design standards to create visually attractive transitions between different areas of the community. Following these discussions, staff plans to meet with impacted stakeholders before any changes would be further considered.
