Explore the wild side of Castle Rock; Geocaching helps trail users uncover Wilder’s secrets

Geocaching Treasure Map

Unbelievable discoveries are made when you get outdoors and explore. That’s the message the Town is partnering with Great Outdoors Colorado to help spread. The Wilder, the better.

Wilder is the GOCO mascot who helps kids throughout the state connect with the wonder of being outside. In coordination with the opening of the East Plum Creek Trail southern extension, the Parks and Recreation Department, GOCO and Wilder are teaming up on a new project to encourage people to explore the new trail.

Kids grow better outside, so GOCO has set a goal to get more kids connected with the outside world. Over the next few months, families are encouraged to explore the trail to find 11 hidden geocaches. The treasure inside each cache is based on the Generation Wild campaign.

Geocaching is a worldwide recreational activity that uses a GPS device, like your cellphone, to help locate caches hidden nearby. The caches vary in size, shape and difficulty. Each cache holds a variety of trinkets and a logbook inside. The goal is to find the cache, sign the logbook, and then take or trade a trinket.

Go to Geocaching.com, or use the Geocaching mobile app, to get the coordinates. The East Plum Creek Trail geocache coordinates are located on the Town’s Parks and Recreation Geocaching profile – @tcrpandr. There are also helpful hints included in each cache’s description.

The East Plum Creek Trail southern extension is a new 2-mile trail segment that runs from Perry Street, next to Safeway, south to Crystal Valley Parkway.
