The Aquatics Department offers certification for becoming a lifeguard and community CPR and first aid. Completing our Lifeguard Training does not guarantee employment. Applying for a lifeguard position with the Town requires a separate application process. Apply today at CRgov.com/Jobs.
Lifeguard Training Class
The Lifeguard Training Class prepares participants for work as professional lifeguards. To participate, swimmers must be able to complete a 300-yard swim test utilizing front crawl and breaststroke, tread water for two minutes non-stop using kick only (no arms/hands), retrieve a 10-pound brick from 10-feet deep and return across the 20-yard pool in one minute and forty seconds using kick only. Successful completion of the course does not guarantee employment with the Town.
Community CPR and First Aid
This class provides training in basic lifesaving skills: CPR for adults, infants and children and AED training. Bring a lunch and notebook.
Adult Lifeguard Training Class
Looking to splash back into the work force with a job that has flexibility and great perks? Lifeguard during the day! Requirements are the same as the other Lifeguard Training classes, however our Adult Lifeguard class is for individuals age 18 and over and held during the day from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.. Take the stress out of finding child care, our Recreation Center daycare is on site and steps away from the pools, so you can train while the kids are busy.
Lifeguard Certification Review Class
The review class gives individuals the opportunity to re-examine the full course content. Participants must hold a current lifeguard certification from the American Red Cross and provide evidence to participate. The course format optimizes the participant’s ability to successfully complete written and skill evaluations. Participants will complete a blended learning portion and show the certificate before the start of class, practice and perform skills for evaluations and complete a written exam.
Please note, the American Red Cross does not honor any recertification once the certification has expired. If your certification has expired, you will need to retake the lifeguard training class.
